Money - What is it good for
I've come to the conclusion that I hate money! Money brings out the worst in people - greed, envy, selfishness, hatred, indifference, betrayal, violence, murder, immoral and actually utter destruction... Whatever we do, whatever happens, everyday life, everything involves money. It's always been like that and it always will. Your neighbor wins the lottery and is set for life. Your greedy old uncle dies and you inherit a lot of money. The meeting on the golf course gets you that well paid position you so wanted. The "business" trip in your charge got you that dream contract. So far so good, after all.

The picture you had of his family made him withdraw his police report. The chopped off finger made him return that gram of narcotics that he stole. The burning of a village in order to grow coca plants got you a whole lot of land. And there's more...
In the name of money we close hospital wards, decrease the number of hospital beds, cut down on hospital staff, cut down on the number of surgical procedures, cut down on the cleaning of maternity wards, send sick and dying people home, let people wait in line for months for surgery, cut down on assistance to disabled people, deny elderly people proper meals and clean clothes and underwear, warm showers and just some common courtesy.
In the name of money we send children to school and classes without teachers, cut down on school books, ignore mould and ventilation problems in class rooms, cut down on swimming lessons and physical education, cut down on special education for children with learning disabilities.
In the name of money we destroy rain forests, we empty oil tanks in the sea, we let factories pollute the air we breath.
In the name of money we lock up fur animals and deprive them of their fur, we let cattle and pigs and chickens live in their own excrements and travel far to slaughter houses, we breed cats and dogs just for "beauty", we hunt and kill elephants for ivory, we hunt and kill wild animals for trophies, we pull off feathers and skin of live birds and rabbits, we skin dogs alive, we torture animals in labs for beauty.
There's no end to human stupidity! But no matter how I look at it, money I must have. It's a necessary evil thing! I work hard to make a living because I need food, I need clothes and I need a home. I was once a child that was in school. I've been sick and in need of hospital care. I want to breath fresh air and swim in clear water. One day I will be old and in need of someone to take care of me. When that day comes I want clean clothes, warm showers, proper meals and I will see to it that I deserve some common courtesy.
