Inspiration - Birth and death of a dear friend

In loving memory of Sealy

You were made in Iceland, and you came into our lives in July 2008.  My little boy found you in a rack outside a store at the airport in Keflavik.  You were all white and soft and fluffy and so cute. "Mommy, can I have him?"  Looking at the price tag I hesitated for a while, but you were too cute to resist and my son's eyes were twinkling. What could I do?  And that was it!  You came back with us and you and my little boy were inseparable.  You slept in his bed, you went with him on school retreats, sleep overs and vacation trips.  So you'd been to Cyprus, Netherlands, Morocco, London, Crete, the USA and Norway.  In Cyprus you lost your eye defending my son against his cousins who were playing a bit too rough.

Maybe it was finally Norway that made you feel close to your natural genes, because there in a hotel room in Trondheim you decided to leave us.  You hid under the sheets in my son's bed and there you stayed when we closed the door behind us.  I suppose the question from my son a day later was one he had been nervous to ask:  "Unless you have Sealy, he's still in Norway".  You died in Norway, my friend.  But a little piece of you is still with us, and always will be.  The memory of you for one thing, and I still have your eye.  I was meaning to put it back on but it just never happened.  And you never once complained.  You will be missed!

Rest in peace, Sealy!  Thank you for everything you've been...
